Introducing a 93-year-old Tennessee subject

IDEA is proud to introduce one of our most fascinating subjects ever: a 93-year-old man from Lenoir City, Tennessee, United States, in the eastern part of the state. Because of his age and the fact that he has spent almost his entire life in the same town, his dialect represents a cultural and linguistic time capsule. Go here to listen.

He was almost 94 when recorded in January of this year, which makes him IDEA’s second-oldest subject at the time of recording. The oldest subject is Maine 3, a 95-year-old woman born in 1915. IDEA’s earliest-born subject is England 55, from Greetland and Calderdale, in West Yorkshire; she was born in 1912 and was 91 years old when she was recorded in 2004.

Thanks to IDEA contributor Stephanie Kroschel and IDEA Senior Editor Deric McNish for the contribution.
