Bio: Yvette Hardie is a theatre producer, director, educator, and writer active in the world of theatre and performance, with a particular focus on theatre for young audiences. She initiated the launch of ASSITEJ SA (http://www.assitej.org.za) in 2007, and leads the organization as Director. She currently serves as President of the International ASSITEJ (http://assitej-international.org), a network of theatres and artists working in theatre for young audiences in over 85 countries. She is also deputy chairperson of the ACYTA (African Children and Youth Theatre Arena).
She has played various roles, including Festival Director, for the Out The Box Festival of Puppetry and Visual Performance. She produced the award-winning Colonnades Theatre Lab production, Truth in Translation, seen by over 55 000 people worldwide. For her company, FreeVoice Productions, she is producing international tours of Sindiwe Magona’s Mother to Mother. Past tours include the National Black Theatre Festival (USA), the Edinburgh Festival and the Afrovibes Festival (Netherlands/UK). As director, projects include Suzanne Lebeau’s The Ogreling and Mike van Graan’s Is it because I’m Jack? She serves as Deputy Chairperson of Arterial Network SA. She is valued for her work in Arts Education, having written national curricula and textbooks for Dramatic and Creative Arts. She has an MTech in Voice and Movement Studies from the Tshwane University of Technology.
